The Devil is in the details! But, you may ask, in the details of what? Well, right now, it’s in the details of the proposed articles 14 and 17 of the statutes of the APEEE that will be put up for approval at the December 7th APEEE’s Extraordinary General Meeting. Quite frankly, these two articles are potentially so dangerous that I will vote against them. I believe they were designed to concentrate more power in certain positions and reduce accountability in others. I’m sure after you read the details below you will vote against them too. St. Anthony really worked fast this time around! The official results of the resolutions at the latest AGM (our copy) have finally been made public just a few hours after this post being published.

It’s official! Saint Anthony, the patron saint of lost things, is being summoned by these Diaries for the first time in 2022… And it’s no small ask we have for him: the results for the voted resolutions at the latest AGM are still missing!!!

At the APEEE AGM on 3 February nine resolutions (our copy) were voted. Among them, one stood out and was the subject of an article of this blog on why it should be voted down. This resolution is also the reason why the results of the votes on all nine resolutions have not yet been published on the website of the APEEE as of the time of publishing this article. Déjà vu…

…or why you should VOTE (AGAIN) AGAINST Resolution 2 on Written procedure at the upcoming AGM!

As science fiction memes go, especially those inspired by The Matrix, I must admit that I have seen much, much worse.

I’m of course referring to the APEEEs proposal for the next AGM to introduce in the statutes a possibility that the APEEE board takes decisions through a written procedure. What makes it such an extraordinary Déjà vu moment is that an almost identical version of this resolution had been tabled at last year’s AGM, but the required 2/3 majority of APEEE Class Representatives did not support this resolution. The APEEE AGM of 2022 is fast approaching (It’s on Thursday 3 February 2022 at 7 pm) and with it comes a lot of excitement. Even if all parents can attend the AGM, Members of the Board are in full campaign mode and organising meetings with their sections’ class representatives left, right and centre. Class representatives are the ones with voting power.

Meanwhile, a few of the many avid readers of this blog challenged me to organise a pre-AGM meeting to let all interested parents know what they can expect from the AGM.

The troubled tale of a Code of Conduct

The last week and a half I have received many questions from parents about the proposed APEEE Code of Conduct (CoC): What is this CoC? Why does it need to be voted now? Why do ALL parents need to vote on this?

Before I start addressing those questions, I would like to say that I really think a CoC is a good thing. This is so because common sense does not always prevail. In those cases, having a set of ground rules for acceptable behaviour and communication may come handy for ensuring a good work environment. However, the APEEE’s proposed CoC is not fit for purpose.
